Jessica Lafrance is a director and writer from Ottawa. She holds a BFA in Theatre from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She was a recipient of Ottawa’s SAW Video Jumpstart Mentorship in 2011, receiving a grant to direct her first short film Flowers in February. Since then, she has directed several short films which have been official selections at film festivals across Canada and Internationally. She co-wrote and directed the play The Complicated… performed on stages in Montreal and New York City. She has also worked as an AD on the TV shows Cook Like a Chef and Let’s Brunch (CTV Life).
In 2017 she received the Cinespace Filmmaker Award at the Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival in Toronto for her short film The Big Push. Her latest project Ainoa, shot in Spain, will premiere at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in May 2022.
